Over the next year, Delhi Development Authority (DDA) would identify more than 3,000 vacant land parcels to be utilised for surface parking across the city, senior officials told Delhi Lieutenant-Governor and DDA chairman Taranjit Singh Sandhu in a meeting on Wednesday (May 27, 2026).

According to a statement from the L-G’s office, in a first such exercise, the L-G chaired a high-level meeting with the seven Delhi MPs of the Lok Sabha and senior DDA officials. These meetings are expected to become a regular exercise with the fixed periodicity, wherein actions taken after the last meeting and contemporary issues will be discussed, the statement read.

Additionally, 232 plots to accommodate about one lakh vehicles are ready to be put up for tender, DDA informed.

Of the 232 plots, 30 are in Rohini Zone, 23 in South Zone, 53 in North Zone, 98 in Dwarka Zone and 28 in East Zone. “These will go a long way in addressing the parking woes as well as easing traffic congestion in the Capital,” the statement read.

Every MP also identified unauthorised occupation and encroachment as one of the biggest civic issues in the city and assured of full cooperation to the authorities in dealing with them.
