A total 1.27 lakh households in the tri-commissionerate area within the Outer Ring Road have enumerated themselves online as part of the 2027 Census of India, thus cutting down their engagement time with the Census staff on door-to-door survey mission.
The online self enumeration option as part of the population census was given to simplify the process for the enumerators on duty. It remained open from April 26 up to May 10, while the crucial house listing operations began on May 11, 2026.
Commissioner, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, R.V.Karnan shared the details at a media conference on Monday.
Mr. Karnan said all major preparatory activities required for commencement of field operations have been completed across the Core Urban Region (CURE), comprising GHMC, Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation, Cyberabad Municipal Corporation and Secunderabad Cantonment.
As part of the preparatory exercise, a total 19,868 House Listing Blocks (HLBs) were created and digitally demarcated on the Census portal, in accordance with the guidelines. Adequate number of enumerators and supervisors have been identified, with 10% reserve.
Extensive training programmes were conducted from April 18 to May 5 for field personnel. In total, 25,175 personnel including 21,773 enumerators and 3,402 supervisors (including reserve staff) were trained through 693 training batches, Mr. Karnan said.
Appointment orders, identity cards, HLB maps, manuals and field kits were distributed to all field enumerators and supervisors.
The house listing operations will continue up to June 9, during which enumerators along with supervisors will undertake on-ground verification of allotted HLB boundaries, using geo-tagged landmarks and Census maps. All buildings and Census houses within each block will be numbered as per the Census guidelines, and the numbers will be marked on the main entrance gate of the structures to facilitate uniform identification and future field verification.•
Detailed layout maps of the HLBs will be prepared indicating roads, streets, lanes, landmarks, vacant sites, public buildings and other important structures.
After completion of boundary verification, numbering and layout mapping, enumerators will commence collection of House Listing & Housing Census data through the HLO Mobile Application.
The door to door survey will record details related to buildings, Census houses, usage of structures, household particulars, amenities and other housing-related information prescribed on the mobile app.
Supervisors, besides monitoring the field activities and reviewing progress, will also conduct field-level inspections and validation checks to ensure that no household or structure within the allotted HLB is omitted.
A Walkathon was organised on the Necklace Road on Monday, May 11, with active participation from officials, students, volunteers, and citizens. Director of Census Bharati Hollikeri along with Mr. Karnan, took part in the event and emphasised the importance of accurate Census data and active public participation.
