The direct hit on a seven-storey building tore through sections of the structure which has partially collapsed, the military and rescue services said.

AFP footage showed rescuers using flashlights to search through rubble and scattered concrete blocks.

The strike took place minutes after the military warned it had detected a new round of missiles fired from Iran at around 15:00 GMT.

Elad Edri, chief of staff of Israel’s Home Front Command, said that four people were missing.

“We have a major destruction site,” he said in a video statement.

Israel’s Fire and Rescue Services said later that two of the four people trapped under the rubble had been found dead.

The building was hit by a “direct impact of a missile”, a military spokesperson told AFP, confirming it was fired from Iran.

Israel’s emergency service, Magen David Adom, said four people were wounded in the strike, including a 10-month-old baby who suffered a head injury.

An 82-year-old man was also in a “serious condition”, MDA said. A hospital later said he was stable.

He was “wounded by a heavy object and the blast”, the MDA said, adding that the other three suffered shrapnel and blast injuries.

Dozens of Israeli security and members of rescue forces were deployed at the site of the strike, an AFP correspondent reported.

Images and footage published by MDA show smoke rising from the remains of a flattened building in a densely populated area, and stretchers laid on the road by rescuers for casualties.

MDA paramedic Shevach Rothenshtrych quoted residents saying that there were casualties trapped under the rubble on the lower floors, and the 82-year-old was rescued after first responders “managed to move large pieces of concrete with our hands”.

His colleague Tal Shustak said that when emergency calls were received, “we were dispatched in large forces to the scene and saw extensive destruction, including glass, smoke and concrete scattered across the ground”.

On Monday (April 6), the military detected fresh waves of missiles fired from Iran, and each time it said its “defensive systems are operating to intercept the threat”.

Iran has fired missiles daily at Israel since February 28, in retaliation to joint U.S.-Israeli attacks on the country that has killed several top Iranian leaders, including supreme leader Ali Khamenei.

Since the start of the conflict, Israeli and U.S. airstrikes have attacked a number of Iran’s missile production sites and also nuclear facilities.

Airstrikes in southwest Iran have killed at least three people and wounded others, according to Iranian state media.

The attack took place in the same area where a missing American crew member is believed to be.

Meanwhile, the commander of the joint military command, Gen Ali Abdollahi Aliabadi, said his country will target all infrastructure used by the U.S. military in the region, as well as Israel’s infrastructure, if aggression against Iran escalates.

His comments on Saturday (April 4) evening, carried by state media, came a few hours after Mr. Trump warned Tehran to open the Strait of Hormuz or face devastating consequences.- AP

The latest round of Iranian missile fire caused explosions across Tel Aviv and damage in central Israel on Thursday (March 5, 2026), but there were no reported casualties and residents have been cleared to leave shelters.

Iran’s state broadcaster reported that Tehran had fired missiles “against targets in the heart of Tel Aviv,” after Israel’s military said it was working to intercept incoming Iranian fire.

Projectiles in central Israel

AFP journalists in Tel Aviv reported two near simultaneous waves of explosions reverberate across the city.

After the barrage, Israel’s emergency services, the Magen David Adom, said its teams had visited several impacted sites but reported no casualties.

Israeli police said it was “currently handling scenes involving fallen projectiles in central Israel,” adding that “damage has been caused,” but also reporting no injuries.

The military has released a statement clearing people “to leave protected spaces.”

Abbas Araghchi on ground invasion

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Thursday (March 5, 2026) his country was prepared for any potential ground invasion, saying such a move would spell “disaster” for the Islamic republic’s foes.

“We are waiting for them,” Mr. Araghchi told U.S. broadcaster NBC News, as the United States and Israel kept up strikes on Iran. “We are confident that we can confront them and that would be a big disaster for them.”

Iran has prepared a plan to respond to a possible Israeli attack following the Islamic Republic’s retaliatory missile strike against it last week, local media reported on Sunday (October 6, 2024).

“The plan for the necessary response to a possible action by the Zionists (Israel) has been fully prepared,” Tasnim news agency said, quoting “an informed source” in the armed forces.

On Tuesday (October 1, 2024), the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) fired some 200 missiles at Israel in retaliation after the leaders of groups allied to Tehran were killed in attacks.

“If Israel takes action, there will be no doubt that an Iranian counterattack will be carried out,” said Tasnim.

It added that Iran “has a list of many Israeli targets” and said Iran’s attack on Tuesday (October 1, 2024) “showed that we can level to the ground any place it desires”.

Tuesday’s (October 1, 2024) missile barrage, Iran’s second-ever direct attack on Israel, came after an Israeli air raid killed Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah and IRGC top general Abbas Nilforoushan in Beirut.

It was also in retaliation for the killing of Palestinian group Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh on July 31 in Tehran in an attack widely blamed on Israel.

On Saturday (October 5, 2024), Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned of a “proportional and similar reaction from Iran, and even stronger” if Israel attacks.

On Sunday (October 6, 2024), Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad visited a key oil site in the Gulf, amid growing concerns over possible Israeli strikes on Iran’s oil facilities.

U.S. President Joe Biden on Friday (October 4, 2024) advised Israel against targeting oil sites in Iran, one of the world’s 10 largest oil producers.
