Rohit Sharma Mocks Ben Foakes, Takes Swipe At England’s False Catch Claim. Watch

Rohit Sharma Mocks Ben Foakes, Takes Swipe At England’s False Catch Claim. Watch

Posted on February 25, 2024 By admin

India captain Rohit Sharma was a frustrated figure after England tried to claim a grassed catch of Yashasvi Jaiswal on Day 2 of the fourth Test in Ranchi. The incident happened on 20th over of India’s innings after England were bowled out for 353 in the morning session. Jaiswal seemed to have edged Ollie Robinson‘s delivery behind to the keeper Ben Foakes. The on-field umpires, however, weren’t too sure about the catch being taken cleanly and referred the decision to the third umpire.

The third umpire decided after a couple of replays that the ball had dropped before Foakes could pouch it.

After the big screen showed not out, England players were stunned to see the decision going against them. However, Rohit was caught mocking the catch on camera, and had a wry smile on his face.

Former England batter Nick Knight sympathised with Rohit, and explained why the Indian captain was a bit miffed with how the incident unfolded.

Knight pointed out how Rohit took a similar catch of Joe Root, but instead of claiming it he urged the umpire to check the replays as he wasn’t too sure if the catch was clean.

Shoaib Bashir took four wickets to lead England’s bowling charge and put India on the back foot at 219-7 at the close of play on Day 2.

Bashir rattled the Indian reply to England’s first innings of 353 in a marathon spell of 31 overs unchanged spread over three sessions in Ranchi.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel, on 30, and Kuldeep Yadav, on 17, were batting at the close of play with an unbeaten stand of 42 but India still trail the visitors by 134 runs.

The in-form Yashasvi Jaiswal made 73 but Bashir bowled him after the left-hander attempted to defend a low ball that caught the toe of the bat and crashed into the stumps.

Bashir, who missed the opener due to a visa delay and is playing his second Test, was ably supported by two wickets from fellow spinner Tom Hartley.
