“I Will Buy It”: Childhood Coach Recalls Young Rohit Sharma’s Reaction To Mercedes Car

“I Will Buy It”: Childhood Coach Recalls Young Rohit Sharma’s Reaction To Mercedes Car

Posted on February 28, 2024 By admin

India captain Rohit Sharma is among the prominent sportspersonalities in India. Besides leading the cricket team, Rohit also plays a huge role for the side as a batter. Like majority of the Indian cricketers, Rohit too hails from a humble background. His family had to borrow money to send him to a cricket camp in Borivali. Everthing started with a dream of playing for India and now Rohit is among the best batters in the world. Be it his game, fame or money, Rohit has grown by leaps and bounds in all terms. Going down the memory lane, Rohit’s childhood coach Dinesh Lad, in a recent interview, revealed that the player once dreamt of buying a Mercedes.

“Once Rohit and I saw a Mercedes car, he said, ‘Sir, I will buy this car one day.’ It was the time when Rohit was selected for Mumbai’s Under-19 team. Was that possible? He had not played at any big level back then and said that he wants to buy a Mercedes. But he confidently said, ‘You see, I will buy it’,” said Lad while speaking to SRG Sports.

India’s skipper Rohit on Monday celebrated the Test series win over England by saying his team’s young players had filled the shoes of missing veterans to shine in cricket’s toughest format.

India won the fourth Test by five wickets after they pulled off a tricky chase of 192 on day four in Ranchi, with wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel (39) and Shubman Gill (52) in an unbeaten stand of 72.

India had slipped to 120 for 5 but Jurel and Shubman remained calm as the hosts took an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series after losing the opener.

Man of the match Jurel, 23, who made his debut in the previous win in Rajkot, turned the match on its head with his 90 after he lifted India from 177-7 in their first innings to 307 on day three.

“Test cricket throws different kinds of challenges, different kinds of pressures,” Rohit told reporters. “But the way they have dealt with the pressures throughout the series has been superb.”

Usual frontline players such as Virat Kohli and injured KL Rahul were absent from the lineup.

“These guys who have come in have done the job perfectly,” Rohit added.

“They have taken the responsibility perfectly… you can take a lot of pride from performances like this with inexperienced players.”
