Man arrested for creating ruckus, vandalising police vehicle in Mattancherry in inebriated state

Posted on November 7, 2026 By admin

The Mattancherry police have arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly creating a ruckus at the station and vandalising an official vehicle while in an inebriated state.

The arrested man is Hamsath Ashraf, a native of Kochangadi, Mattancherry. The accused allegedly went to the police station around 11.15 p.m. on Friday and engaged in a verbal duel with a senior civil police officer who was in charge of the general diary. His arrest was recorded for allegedly obstructing the police from discharging their duty.

He then allegedly damaged the windshield and rearview mirror of the police vehicle while being taken to a hospital for medical examination, according to the FIR. The police claimed that the act had caused losses estimated at around ₹40,000.

He has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
