The Delhi Police’s Special Cell has registered an FIR over the circulation of suspected child sexual abuse material through Meta platforms, including Facebook and Instagram.

The FIR was registered on October 8 under Sections 67 (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) and 67B (publishing or transmitting material depicting children in sexually explicit acts or conduct in electronic form) of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

Approximately 10 links were flagged in a complaint alleging the circulation of such material, following which the police initiated an investigation to verify the allegations, said Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) Additional CP Sanjay Bhatia.

“Acting on our directions, Delhi Police has registered an FIR regarding the availability of Child Sexual Exploitative and Abuse Material (CSEAM) on platforms operated by @MetaIndia,” NHRC member Priyank Kanoongo said in a post on X.

The Special Cell is investigating the matter, police said.
