The Tambaram City Police on Friday launched the ‘Smart Khaki Beat System’, equipping 73 motorcycles with modern policing equipment to strengthen beat patrolling, improve police visibility, and ensure public safety.
Commissioner of Police A. Amalraj inaugurated the initiative at the Armed Reserve Headquarters in Paduvancherry on Friday. The motorcycles have been fitted with public address systems, walkie-talkies, body-worn cameras, Android mobile phones, blinking lights, sirens with light bars, lathi stands, helmets, reflective jackets, and equipment boxes.
Under the new system, beat patrols will operate round the clock in three shifts to ensure a continuous police presence, strengthen crime prevention, and improve the response to emergencies.
The initiative is also aimed at enabling police personnel to respond swiftly to calls received through the 100 emergency helpline and provide prompt assistance to the public.
The Tambaram City Police said the technology-enabled system would improve patrolling efficiency, strengthen communication and coordination among personnel, and facilitate quicker responses to emergencies and public grievances.
