Tree falls near school; a lucky escape

A tree near Sixth Avenue (near the entrance of GRT school) in Ashok Nagar fell on October 21. As luck would have it, it was a holiday for the school on account of the rains. This road comes under the purview of Ward 135 in Zone 10 (Kodambakkam).

Earlier, on October 18, another tree had fallen, and this was on 86th Street in Ashok Nagar. In this incident, a bike was damaged.

From time to time, a road is dug up several times for various works including stormwater drain construction, laying water pipes, sewage pipes and telecommunication cables. This could damage the roots of trees, and as a result, they get uprooted.

Hence, the Parks Department of the Greater Chennai Corporation should take necessary measures without any delay and prevent the occurrence of untoward incidents.

Mohammed Yusufdeen is a resident of Ashok Nagar
