Srikakulam District Congress Committee former president Pedada Parameswara Rao on Saturday (October 17, 2026) alleged that thousands of migrant labourers from Srikakulam district had lost their voting right because of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls conducted by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Speaking to the media here, he said Srikakulam was known for migrant labourers who returned to their native places for festivals, elections and other important occasions.
“For the livelihood, they stay in other cities but they have not permanently shifted to other places. Their families stay in their native places. Their Aadhaar cards are also having Srikakulam district address. It is unfair to remove their names during SIR process. Unfortunately, they don’t get voting right where they are working. ECI must look into the issue and restore their voting right,” Mr. Parameswara Rao said.
He said he had brought the issue to the notice of the party high command, since more than five lakh people of Srikakulam had migrated temporarily to other places for their livelihood.
