Drain work in Madhavaram and Tondiarpet to be completed this week

Posted on October 8, 2026 By admin

Commercial Taxes and Registration Minister D. Logesh Tamilselvan on Thursday said work on restoration of canals in Madhavaram and Tondiarpet will be completed this week.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, he said: “Work on removing water hyacinth in Retteri surplus canal is under way. The encroachments will be removed.” He ordered officials to expedite work on 1.16 km drain work along Madhavaram Red Hills High Road from V.S.Mani Nagar to Puzhal Surplus. The work is estimated at ₹22.88 crore. Once the work is completed, flood risk is expected to reduce in areas such as Balaji Nagar, MRH Road, Vegetarian Nagar, and Krishna Nagar.

The Minister then visited ward 24 and inspected work in Sri Balaji Nagar Third Main Road and ordered officials to expedite work on flood mitigation. He also inspected work on removal of water hyacinth in Retteri North Surplus in ward 31.

In ward 30, the Minister inspected work on installation of a heavy duty pump in Elizabeth Nagar to bail out water and drain water along the 200 feet road. He also inspected work on pumping arrangements in Retteri.
