CPI(M) urges Tamil Nadu government to boycott High-Level Committee on Demographic Changes

CPI(M) urges Tamil Nadu government to boycott High-Level Committee on Demographic Changes

Posted on October 2, 2026 By admin

The CPI(M) has urged the Tamil Nadu government to boycott the High-Level Committee on Demographic Changes constituted by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

Strongly condemning the move, CPI(M) State secretary P. Shanmugam said in a statement on Friday that the 35-point questionnaire formulated by this panel exposes the anti-minority agenda of the RSS and the BJP.

The CPI(M) alleged that setting up such an extra-legal committee to gather data while the official Census remains pending demonstrates the BJP’s malicious intent. The party further accused the committee of acting purely with political motives by seeking religion-wise data from states on faith-based school enrollments, land ownership transfers, and religious conversions among tribal populations.

In particular, he pointed out that the committee’s collection of religious details regarding voters deleted from electoral rolls, coupled with the fact that it does not include even a single demographer, clearly reveals the BJP’s underlying motives.

He emphasised that to safeguard State autonomy, the Tamil Nadu government must reject the committee’s questionnaire, openly oppose its motives, and refuse to cooperate by denying any data to the panel.
