The Election Commission of India (ECI) has so far received a total 8,38,558 application forms as part of the Claims & Objections phase which is set to end on October 7.
Of these, more than half are for fresh enrolment, while corrections too form a large chunk. Applications for deletions are not very high.
A total 4,43,705 applications are for fresh enrolment through Form-6, while 3,57,898 are for correction through Form-8, says the data shared by Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudarshan Reddy. Applications for deletion, via Form-7, amount to 30,676, while 6,279 applications pertain to enrolment of Non Resident Indians through Form-6A.
The processing of these applications is progressing at a snail’s pace, with 8,14,160 applications still pending. Of these, 6,49,085 are pending for 45 days or more.
The highest number of applications, at 3,04,354, has been received from the 15 constituencies of Hyderabad district, where 1,90,595 were filed for fresh enrolment. A total 1,04,433 were for corrections, while only 5,256 were filed for deletion.
Medchal Malkajgiri registered 1,16,752 applications, while Ranga Reddy district received 1,15,444. The lowest number was from Mulugu, at 836.
When it comes to notice phase set to end on November 5, a total 4,90,600 notices are yet to be delivered to the voters with anomalies and unmapped voters.
Against a total 92,88,180 notices generated, only 87,97,580 have been delivered to the respective electors. The data from the CEO’s office says, hearings have been conducted with respect to 59,51,696 electors, while 46,10,367 electors have been cleared at the level of Electoral Registration Officers/Assistant Electoral Registration Officers, for publication in final rolls.
Along with voters in the name of whom no notices have been generated, the total number of voters approved for final rolls so far stands at 1,41,02,982, accounting for over a half of the electors whose names figure in the draft electoral rolls.
However, electors not cleared by the EROs/AEROs cannot be presumed to have been deleted, as document verification is being escalated to the respective District Election Officers (DEOs). A large number of cases remain pending at this level.
As of Monday, a total 4,12,923 applications are pending with the DEOs for verification. A total 19,85,343 electors have been verified at DEO’s level. So far, only 4,570 entries have been found ineligible for publication in final roll.
