Indiramma House allotment to be cancelled if work did not begin; affordable flats’ construction in Hyderabad by Bonalu

Telangana Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy announced on Monday (September 21) that a decision was taken to cancel the allotment of Indiramma Houses if construction did not begin and allot the same to people who are eligible.

The government provides a subsidy of ₹5 lakh per house in installments. Beneficiaries have to use their own money, at least initially, to begin the construction. The first instalment is released after completion of the basement. However, some of the beneficiaries could not roll out the construction since they had difficulty in raising the initial amount needed.

The issue was raised in the recently held monsoon session of the State Assembly. In response, the Housing Minister said that an advance amount of ₹1 lakh is provided by Self Help Groups (SHG) if beneficiaries are its members.

Meanwhile, after laying the foundation stone for Indiramma Housing tower near Malkam Cheruvu in Raidurg of Serilingampally Assembly constituency on Monday (September 21), the Minister said that the government aims to complete construction of the the housing towers in Hyderabad (CURE) quickly, ensuring beneficiaries celebrate Bonalu next year at their new homes.

The Housing Minister urged people not to be disheartened if they applied but did not get selected in the draw of lots for the flats. The government intends to build one lakh such houses in the Core Urban Region (CURE).

Under the first phase, 480 flats per Assembly constituency were sanctioned. The draws were held to select beneficiaries for 7,340 flats in 16 Assembly constituencies so far, with houses in more constituencies planned to be allotted.

The Minister said that houses would be constructed in subsequent phases as well. “Houses would be provided to eligible persons for poor background in CURE limits in the coming two-and-a-half years,” said Mr. Reddy.

Besides an undivided share of 17 to 20 square yards per beneficiary, measures are being taken to provide each of the beneficiaries with complete ownership of the flats. A decision was taken to waive charges for sale deed and registration.
