Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with CEOs and senior executives from the global chip industry on Wednesday, as the government aims to attract further investments in chipmaking and electronics manufacturing in the country.
Executives at the meeting included leaders from Micron, Infineon, Applied Materials, ASML, Merck, Tokyo Electron Ltd, FujiFilm, AMD, Intel, Tata Electronics, Lam Research, Rapidus, NXP, Foxconn, Semi Conductor Devices, Advantest, Celesta Capital, CG Power, and IBM Research.
Mr. Modi is set to address the inaugural session of Semicon India 2026 on Wednesday morning. In last year’s edition, which he also addressed, Mr. Modi spoke of the “world’s growing trust in India,” pointing to the multiple semiconductor packaging and fabrication facilities in the works and already running by that point.
The address will come as the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) oversees the implementation of the second phase of the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), which covers a wider range of electronics used in chipmaking. This phase of the scheme is backed by an outlay of ₹1.27 lakh crore.
Mr. Modi told the CEOs that the government was committed to “a predictable and responsive policy environment,” according to a government statement on the meeting. The CEOs, in turn, “expressed confidence in the opportunities emerging under ISM 2.0 and in India’s potential to build capabilities across the semiconductor value chain, including manufacturing, R&D, advanced technologies and supporting industries,” the statement said.
