Over 900 motorists booked for drunk-driving across tri-commissionerate limits

Traffic police in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri booked 923 cases against motorists for drunk driving during special enforcement drives conducted over the weekend.

The Hyderabad Traffic Police caught 397 motorists driving under the influence of alcohol during a two-day drive on September 11 and 12. In Cyberabad, police apprehended 292 motorists during their weekend special drive. Malkajgiri Commissionerate Traffic Police apprehended 234 motorists during its special drive between September 6 and 12.

In Cyberabad, 681 drunk-driving cases were disposed of by courts between September 7 and 12. Eighteen offenders were sentenced to jail term and a fine, seven were sentenced to a fine and social service, while 656 were fined.

In Malkajgiri, 495 drunk-driving cases were disposed of between September 6 and 12. Seven respondents were ordered to pay a fine and perform social service, while 488 were fined. No respondent was given both a fine and jail term.

The Hyderabad Traffic Police said there would be zero tolerance towards drunk-driving violations and that such special drives would continue.
