Two persons were arrested with 1 kg of suspected ganja allegedly brought to Kozhikode city for sale in a joint operation by the Kasaba police and the city crime squad. The arrested were identified as Mohammed Yasin, 34, a native of Lakshadweep, and Abdul Muneer, 27, of Ummalathur. They were taken into custody from a lodge on Kallai Road in the city.
The police said the city crime squad had been monitoring Yasin following a tip-off that a person who had arrived from Lakshadweep was allegedly supplying narcotic substances to youths and students in the vicinity of the Palayam bus stand. The operation was conducted under the leadership of Kasaba Inspector Sayooj.
The seized ganja is estimated to have a market value of around ₹1 lakh, the police said. During questioning, the police also obtained information about other persons allegedly involved in drug sales and said they were being kept under surveillance.
