ONGC denies any move to establish new oil wells in delta

Posted on September 11, 2026 By admin

The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has clarified that it has not undertaken any activity to establish new oil wells in the delta districts, designated as a protected agricultural zone.

Referring to complaints from individuals in Mayiladuthurai alleging the establishment of new oil wells and non-compliance with regulations, an ONGC press release said the work currently being carried out was confined to the maintenance of existing oil wells. The work was being undertaken in accordance with regulatory requirements, it said.

The allegations concerning the establishment of new wells and violations of regulations were “factually incorrect and without basis”.

“ONGC remains committed to statutory compliance and responsible operations, with due regard for the region’s protected agricultural status,” the release added.
