Woman arrested in Bengaluru for stealing gold chain and cash from lodge

Posted on September 11, 2026 By admin

A 48-year-old woman was arrested in Bengaluru for stealing a gold chain and ₹4,000 from a man who had stayed with her at a lodge in St. Thomas Mount. The police recovered ₹1.5 lakh and seized two mobile phones and five SIM cards from her.

Kannan, 53, a resident of Chromepet and a former general manager of a private company in Valasaravakkam, became acquainted with Kanchanlata Singh through an online app. In the afternoon of August 26, the two checked into a lodge in St. Thomas Mount. Later that night, Kannan woke up to find that his gold chain weighing around 2.5 sovereigns and ₹4,000 in cash were missing. He subsequently realised that the woman who had stayed with him had stolen these.

He lodged a complaint with the St. Thomas Mount police. A police team examined CCTV camera footage and tracked the mobile number used by Singh, which led them to Bengaluru. She was arrested at a lodge in Bengaluru on September 9.

The police said Singh had sold the stolen chain and spent part of the proceeds. She was produced before the Devanahalli court in Bengaluru and brought to Chennai after completing the legal formalities.
