22-year-old man’s organs donated – The Hindu

Posted on September 8, 2026 By admin

The generous consent to donate the organs of an accident victim enabled the doctors to swiftly harvest them and give to the needy people in different cities on Tuesday.

According to the doctors at the Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Centre, the 22-year-old man identified as Kalaiarasan Jeyapandi was working in a private bank. He was travelling as a pillion rider and as the vehicle reportedly fell following a skid, he sustained severe head injuries on September 5 at Batlagundu. He was rushed to Dindigul Government Hospital.

Subsequently, he was referred to the MMHRC, where, despite treatment, his condition did not improve. After the doctors offered counselling, the parents readily agreed to donate the organs of Kalaiarasan Jayapandi. As they were convinced that their son’s organs would help critically ill patients a renewed chance at life, the doctors got into the act.

After the necessary tests were conducted and brain stem death was confirmed as per protocol, the medical team carried out the retrieval procedure. The liver, split liver, two kidneys, heart, dual lungs and eyes (corneas) were shared with hospitals in Madurai, Chennai and other stations, a press release said.

Government representatives led by Revenue Divisional Officer from Dindigul district paid their last respects to the departed soul. MMHRC Medical Director B. Kannan and other doctors also paid their homage.

The presence of the government officials and the final honours reflected the respect and gratitude extended to the deceased and his family for their selfless decision at a time of profound personal loss.

The hospital authorities also expressed their appreciation to the medical teams, transplant coordinators, revenue department officials, police personnel, and all those involved in facilitating the organ donation, retrieval, transportation and transplantation process.

The selfless decision of Mr. Kalaiarasan Jeyapandi’s parents stands as a powerful reminder that one person’s life can continue to make a difference even after death — through the gift of organ donation.
