Traffic police study bus diversions, u-turn closures to ease JNTU-HITEC City congestion

The Cyberabad traffic police are examining a series of measures, including diversion of RTC buses, closure of select U-turns and a pedestrian underpass, to address persistent traffic congestion along the JNTU Junction-HITEC City corridor and surrounding stretches.

A coordination meeting chaired by Cyberabad Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Sunpreet Singh on Wednesday reviewed traffic conditions between JNTU Junction and HITEC City, including Wipro Junction and its surrounding areas, as well as the stretch from Botanical Garden towards AMB Mall.

Additional DCP (Traffic-I), ACP (Madhapur Traffic) and traffic advisor Prashanth attended the meeting, during which officials studied existing traffic flow, bottlenecks and conflict points and discussed possible traffic management and engineering measures.

The feasibility of diverting RTC bus services operating between JNTU Junction and HITEC City was discussed with the aim of reducing traffic volume on the congested stretch. Officials also examined the possibility of closing select u-turns to reduce cross-movements and improve the flow of vehicles.

The number and location of openings and access points on both sides of the main carriageway were also reviewed, particularly their impact on merging and weaving traffic.

A proposal for a pedestrian underpass at JNTU Junction was discussed to facilitate safer pedestrian movement and reduce pedestrian-vehicle conflicts at the busy junction.

At Wipro Junction and surrounding stretches, officials studied drone footage to understand traffic movement, accumulation points, merging areas and bottlenecks. Possible measures to improve traffic circulation and reduce congestion were discussed based on the observations.

The Botanical Garden-AMB Mall corridor, including the Kothaguda Flyover and its approaches, was also reviewed. Officials discussed measures to regulate traffic flow and address bottlenecks along the stretch.

The meeting concluded with plans for further field-level studies and traffic-flow analysis before deciding on the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed measures. The interventions are aimed at ensuring smoother and safer movement of vehicles and pedestrians along the JNTU-HITEC City and adjoining corridors.
