Inspired by the popular Telugu film ‘Aha Naa Pellanta’, YSRCP leaders led by former MLA Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar staged a novel protest against the rising prices of essential commodities in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday.
The protesters ate plain white rice while chicken, vegetables and other essential commodities were suspended from a makeshift structure above them, symbollically highlighting that the steep rise in prices has put these items beyond the reach of ordinary people.
During the protest, Mr. Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar alleged that prices of essential commodities have risen sharply in Andhra Pradesh, placing an additional financial burden on ordinary households.
He alleged that after the NDA government had come to power by making deceptive promises, it subsequently failed to fulfil them. He alleged that the government had also failed to take effective measures to control the prices of essential commodities.
Comparing Andhra Pradesh with neighbouring Telangana, he claimed that prices of several commodities were considerably higher in the State. Pulses, salt, rice, cooking oil, vegetables, leafy vegetables and meat were being sold at high prices, he alleged.
The former MLA said the increase in prices had significantly affected household budgets.
