Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday night (August 30, 2026) announced an ex gratia of ₹10 lakh each to the families of the eight persons who died in a road accident at Chilakaluripet in Palnadu district. The Chief Minister asked the officials to provide the financial assistance to the bereaved families at the earliest.
The eight victims were residents of Veluru village in Chilakaluripet mandal. They were killed on August 27 when a private travel bus collided with their auto-rickshaw at Chilakaluripet. The bus was travelling from Vijayawada to Tirupati when it rammed into the auto.
Expressing concern over the loss of lives, Mr. Naidu asked the authorities to extend all necessary support to the families of the victims.
Fifteen people from Veluru, including four children and nine women, were travelling in the auto-rickshaw after attending a birthday celebration when the bus hit it at Addaroad Centre in the early hours of Thursday (August 27). Four died on the spot, one at the Chilakaluripet Government Hospital, and two more at the Government General Hospital in Guntur. The injured included the auto-rickshaw driver and three children, and the police registered a case.
