Prevent financial scams

The multi-crore scam news that was published in The Hindu on Saturday (August 29) highlights how investors continue to fall prey to schemes that exploit their desire for quick and high returns. Such scams have surfaced in different forms over the years.

The Centre and State agencies should work together to take proactive measures, strengthen follow-up mechanisms and create awareness, particularly among lower-middle-class and economically vulnerable sections. As banks have successfully raised awareness of digital arrest and money-mule scams, similar efforts could help prevent investment frauds.

Rising traffic violations

The Madurai City Traffic Police are imposing fines. But, it looks like the police machinery should be more vigil and firm in enforcement as the number of violations seem to be increasing.

For instance, the maximum number of two-wheeler and three-wheeler riders use the wrong side of the Natham elevated corridor.

It has become a routine affair to see violators coming dangerously on the opposite side of the bridge posing a shock to the riders who followed the correct way.

With cameras installed, such violations should be discouraged and if needed, the driving licence should be terminated for at least six months.

Deploy more police

With the Meenakshi Temple consecration scheduled to take place on September 17, the number of devotees visiting the shrine is steadily going up. Pilgrims from far and wide are coming to the temple, especially from other States.

The authorities, particularly, the police department, should deploy their personnel in locations like Railway Station and bus stands and around the Meenakshi Temple, who could speak multiple languages other than their mother tongue.

This will help the visitors understand the topography better and would also ensure that they don’t fall prey to tricksters.

Suresh Viswar,

West Masi Street.
