Anandapura police in Sagar taluk of Shivamogga district arrested a person on Thursday on charges of shooting a dog dead with a country-made firearm.

The arrested has been identified as Lingaraju, a resident of Channapura-Nadavalli in Sagar taluk. According to the police, Mr. Lingaraju’s pet dog was recently attacked by a another dog which belonged to a neighbour in the village. Angered by the incident, he allegedly shot and killed the dog.

Anandapura police registered a case after learning of the incident. Investigations revealed that Mr. Lingaraju did not possess a licence for the firearm. The case has been registered under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with maiming or killing an animal, along with provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the Arms Act.
