Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin a four-day trip on Saturday (August 27, 2026) to strengthen ties with Uzbekistan and attend the annual Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Kyrgyzstan.

In the first leg of the trip, Mr. Modi will visit Uzbekistan’s capital, Tashkent, from August 29 to 30 to explore ways to further bolster the bilateral ties in diverse sectors, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

From Uzbekistan, the Prime Minister will travel to Kyrgyzstan’s capital Bishkek on a two-day visit to attend the SCO summit that is expected to deliberate extensively on the evolving security scenario in the region, it said.

At the SCO, PM Modi will address the summit where he will highlight India’s priorities of security, connectivity and opportunity, it said.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif are among the leaders likely to attend the summit.

The summit marks the 25th anniversary of the SCO of which India has been a full member since 2017.

“The Prime Minister will address the summit where he will highlight India’s priorities of security, connectivity and opportunity at the forum,” the MEA said.

The SCO was established with the primary goal of countering terrorism, separatism, and extremism, which continue to remain a challenge, Secretary (West) at the MEA Sibi George said at a media briefing.

Mr. Modi will also hold bilateral meetings with SCO leaders on the sidelines of the summit. It is learnt that Mr. Putin will be among the leaders with whom the Prime Minister will hold bilateral meetings on the margins of the summit.

The Prime Minister is also set to attend the opening ceremony of the sixth World Nomad Games, a celebration of the rich cultural heritage of Central Asia.

The focus of the Prime Minister’s visit to Uzbekistan will be to bolster bilateral ties.

“At the invitation of the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the Prime Minister will undertake a State visit to Tashkent on August 29 and 30 . This will be the prime minister’s fourth visit to Uzbekistan,” Mr. George said.

Mr. Modi will hold delegation-level talks with President Mirziyoyev to further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries, he said.

The two leaders would review cooperation in trade and investment, defence, digital connectivity, energy, education and people-to-people domains and set the agenda for the road ahead, according to the MEA.

It said Mr. Modi and Mr. Mirziyoyev will also share perspectives on advancing the shared developmental visions of Viksit Bharat 2047 and Uzbekistan-2030.

The Prime Minister is also expected to visit the Lal Bahadur Shastri memorial in Tashkent and the Mahatma Gandhi Centre at the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies.

“From Tashkent, at the invitation of the President of Kyrgyz Republic, Sadyr Zhaparov, the Prime Minister will travel to Bishkek,” the MEA said.
