On the ninth day of the Aavani Moola festival at the Madurai Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, the ‘Thiruvilaiyadal’ of carrying sand for pittu (Pittuku Mann Sumantha Thiruvilaiyadal) took place at the Arappalayam Puttuthoppu on Monday.

During this event, Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareswarar gave darshan in special decorations.

Marking the ninth day of the festival, for the ‘Pittuku Mann Sumantha Thiruvilaiyadal’ at Arappalayam Puttuthoppu, Goddesses Priyavidai Sundareswarar and Meenakshi Amman set out in a silver chariot from the temple at around 6 a.m.

After halting at various ‘mandagapadis’ and passing through the Pechiamman Padithurai, the ‘Pittuku Mann Sumantha Leelai’ was performed at Arappalayam Puttuthoppu at around 1:35 p.m.

Goddesses Priyavidai, Meenakshi and Lord Sundareswarar appeared in the divine guise of carrying sand for pittu. Lord Muruga from Thirupparankundram, along with Goddess Deivanai and Manickavasagar Peruman from Thiruvavoor, were also present.

A large number of devotees participated and had darshan. Around 6 p.m, they departed from the Puttuthoppu and returned to the temple on a silver ‘rishabha’ vehicle.
