A large number of electors with even slight name mismatches are going to be issued notices as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls in Telangana. Close to 93 lakh voters are set to get notices asking them to explain the discrepancies, to which they must reply to retain their name on the final rolls.

Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharshan Reddy confirmed during the media briefing, that the difference between a full name along with surname and a name with only initial too will be considered an anomaly. He had earlier, during an interview with The Hindu, stated that his own name would come under anomalies, because of the discrepancy between surname and initial.

However, the anomalies/logical discrepancies already listed by the CEO’s office did not have the elector’s name mismatch as one of the 11 red flags.

The officially listed anomalies or discrepancies are less than 9 months gap between progeny, less than 15 years gap between parent and progeny, greater than 50 years age gap between progeny and parent, less than 40 years age gap between elector and grandparent, different parent name between current e-roll and last SIR, mapping with different relative type between both rolls, mapping with father in the current roll and husband in the last SIR, father’s name different between both rolls, and incorrect age difference between current and last SIR.

Having zero documents, and only Aadhaar too have been listed as anomalies, but since no documents were sought during the Enumeration Phase, they will crop up only during the verification process.
