The Chief Ministers of Mizoram and Nagaland have welcomed the Centre’s decision to refer the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) Amendment Bill, 2026, to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for a detailed examination.

Thanking Union Home Minister Amit Shah for moving the motion in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday (August 12, 2026), Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma said the decision would enable wider consultation and careful consideration of concerns raised.

His Nagaland counterpart, Neiphiu Rio, appreciated the Centre’s “responsiveness” to concerns raised over the proposed legislation. “This is a positive step in the larger public interest and would allow stakeholders to deliberate on the proposed amendments in greater detail,” he said on Thursday (August 13, 2026).

The Assam Christian Forum (ACF) reacted similarly.

“This democratic and consultative step demonstrates the government’s willingness to listen to the concerns of the NGOs, minority communities, and other civil society stakeholders. The ACF warmly looks forward to constructive engagement with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the JPC during the scrutiny of the proposed legislation,” the forum’s spokesperson, Allen Brooks, said.

“We reaffirm our readiness to work in a spirit of dialogue and cooperation to help shape a balanced statutory framework — one that upholds natural justice while enabling genuine civil society organisations to continue their service to the nation and its citizens without hindrance,” he said.
