New birth, death, marriage certificates will be available in three days after registration for Mumbaikars

Posted on August 12, 2026 By admin

Mumbai residents will be able to obtain birth, death and marriage certificates within three working days, with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) streamlining registration and correction services through its ward-level Civic Facilitation Centres (CFC).

The BMC is accepting applications for birth and death registrations and corrections through the Registration of Birth & Death (RBD) portal at ward level CFCs.

BMC commissioner Ashwini Bhide said, “The facility is provided to make the application acceptance more convenient and easier.”

Under this facility, the name of the child on the birth certificate (within 15 years of the birth) will appear in just the working days, corrections in the marriage certificate, and in birth and death certificates will be done in 25 working days. This will also include applications for conversion to QR coded certificate.

According to the BMC, the citizens are provided with the facility of online application acceptance through the portal, where the application status can be also be checked. The Unique ID for checking will be mentioned on the acknowledgement receipt accompanying the application. The process will also require all the necessary documents for the corrections expected in the application. In accordance with the standard Service Level Agreement (SLA), it is clarified that citizens should take into account the availability of the Civil Registration System (CRS) website.

All corrections in accordance with the application will be made under the section 15 of RBD Act, 1969 and the amended Act 2023 as well as as per the circular of the Director (Primary) Health Services, Pune and Chief Registrar, Births and Deaths, Maharashtra State, No. Aase/MuniJMU/Chapter-83/Circular/Birth-Death Registration/6807-953/26 dated 18/06/2026.

QR-coded certificate

A separate window has been made available at the civic amenities centre for accepting applications for conversion of old birth/death certificate into new QR-coded certificate

The ‘QR code’ certificate will be made available subject to availability of the old certificate and verification in the divisional level records of BMC.

“The original copy of the birth/death certificate will have to be made available for the application for conversion of QR coded certificate. Also, the record in lieu of the document held by the Municipal Corporation will be made available through the Health Department,” a BMC authority said.
