MEA dismisses foreign concerns over FCRA Bill, says it is an internal matter

Breaking its silence over concerns expressed by international stakeholders regarding the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment (FCRA) Bill, 2026, the Ministry of External Affairs on Friday (August 7, 2026) said that “legislative matters concerning India are internal affairs”.

“We have seen the comments. Legislative matters concerning India are our internal affairs to be decided by our Parliament. May I point out that several nations, including the U.S. regulate the flow of foreign funds,” Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, said at the bi-weekly press briefing.

Though Mr. Jaiswal did not name anyone, it is inferred that the response came after U.S. Congressman Riley M. Moore slammed the government over the Bill.

Earlier, on August 4, Mr. Moore had described the upcoming amendments to the foreign funding regulation rules as a “clear attack against Christians”. “If this Bill proceeds in this way, it would be a point of major concern in our bilateral relationship with India,” Congressman Riley had said in a social media post.

The Bill is expected to be taken up next week and Home Minister Amit Shah has held a series of consultations with Christian leaders and religious organisations.
