To provide citizens with faster, transparent, and citizen-friendly services, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has made the process of issuing Birth and Death Certificates available online, said Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH), GVMC, E.N.V. Naresh Kumar.
Speaking at an awareness programme held at the GVMC Head Office on Wednesday, Dr. Naresh Kumar stated that citizens no longer need to visit GVMC Zonal offices to obtain Birth and Death Certificates. They can now apply from the comfort of their homes using a mobile phone or computer by visiting the GVMC website www.gvmc.gov.in.
He said that GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg has introduced this citizen-centric online system as part of a special initiative to simplify the process of obtaining Birth and Death Certificates. Applicants can submit the required details and upload the necessary supporting documents online while applying for the certificates.
He directed the concerned officials to ensure that Birth and Death Certificates are issued within seven days to applicants who submit complete applications along with all the required information and supporting documents.
The CMOH further instructed Sanitary Inspectors to ensure that Ward Sanitary Secretaries extend necessary assistance to citizens visiting Ward Secretariats by helping them fill out the online application forms and upload the required documents through mobile devices. He informed that Birth and Death Sanitary Inspectors have already been provided with comprehensive training and awareness on the implementation of the online system.
He also instructed the concerned officials to thoroughly scrutinise every application and, wherever necessary, conduct field verification before forwarding it for online approval.
Later, Statistical Officer P.D.V. Prasad explained the procedure for scrutinising online applications and forwarding them to the competent authorities. He also provided detailed guidance to the Sanitary Inspectors on the registration procedures relating to births occurring in hospitals, births at home or during transit, deaths, adoption-related registrations, special registration cases, and the procedures to be followed for registering births and deaths that occur abroad.
He also clarified the queries raised by the Zonal Commissioners, Assistant Medical Officers, Sanitary Supervisors, and Sanitary Inspectors regarding the implementation of the online registration system.
