Three workers injured as excavation at under-construction building in Gachibowli caves in, case booked against owner and site staff

Posted on July 30, 2026 By admin

The Gachibowli police have registered a case against the owner of a residential plot, the site supervisor and the site foreman after three construction workers were injured when an excavation caved in at an under-construction building in Gachibowli on Thursday morning.

According to the police, the incident occurred at around 10 a.m. at Plot No. 612 in TNGO Colony Phase I, where excavation work for foundation pillars was underway. A portion of the adjoining earth suddenly collapsed while excavated soil was being removed from a pit about nine feet deep, trapping three workers beneath the debris.

The trapped workers were rescued by fellow labourers and shifted to a private hospital. Two of them, Ram Karan, 24, and Ajesh, 26, sustained minor injuries and were discharged after treatment. The third worker, Suresh, 34, remains hospitalised and is stated to be in a stable condition.

Police said the plot belongs to Chukkapalli Krishna Karthik and that the construction had permission for an individual residential building comprising stilt parking and two upper floors.

During the preliminary inquiry, the police found that adequate safety precautions were not taken during the excavation work. Based on the findings, a case has been registered against the plot owner, the site supervisor and the site foreman under relevant provisions of law.

The exact cause of the incident and the role of each of the accused will be determined during the course of the investigation, police said.
