Remove posts with derogatory content ‘targeting constitutional heads’: Delhi Police writes to X

The Delhi Police on Wednesday (July 29, 2026) wrote to X in connection with a complaint alleging that “derogatory, malicious and defamatory content targeting constitutional heads” is being circulated on the social media platform.

The Police have asked the platform to delete or remove the alleged post or video from the platform immediately and provide the complete registrant details including full name, address, contact details and email ID of the said X account ID holder.

This is as per routine communication to the platforms for takedown of posts, said Vinit Kumar, DCP, IFSO (Special Cell). “Nothing related to the protests,” he added, referring to the Cockroach Janta Party-led (CJP) protests in the national capital.

He further said that no FIR related to such posts have been registered in the last month.

This comes as the Delhi Police is in the process of sending takedown notices to Instagram, in an attempt to remove several reels and posts that emerged during the youth protests at Jantar Mantar and elsewhere, officials said.

Without specifying the time frame or the nature of the content, the officer admitted that a large number of such posts had recently been flagged and taken down.

Law enforcement agencies typically send takedown notices under Section 79(3)(b) of the Information Technology Act that notify platforms of specified content that is illegal, however without a legally binding takedown requirement.
