The All India Students’ Association (AISA) on Tuesday alleged that protesters involved in the agitation against the NEET paper leak are facing a police crackdown across the country.
The students’ body claimed that multiple SFI activists, including former JNUSU president Dhananjay, AISA Bihar secretary Dipankar Mishra, and Patna University activists Divyam Kumar and Saba Afreen, have been arrested in Bihar.
AISA national president Neha, one of the prominent faces during the protest, said during a press conference at the Press Club of India: “We were assured that students protesting peacefully would not face repression. However, what we have witnessed is continued arrests, arbitrary detentions and intimidation of students across the country. The government must uphold its promises, release those detained and engage with the concerns of students.”
In addition to arrests made in Bihar, West Bengal and Jharkhand, AISA said that protesters were sent notices in Delhi’s Jamia Nagar. “It has come to our notice that in Jamia Nagar, student peotesters are being sent notices based on retina and face scanning for their presence at Jantar Mantar. AISA Jamia has issued a helpline for legal aid in the matter,” AISA said in a statement.
The organisation reiterated its demand to release all protesters and give compensation for those injured in police brutality. They also demanded the scrapping of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and repeal of the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020.
