TVS Motor Company has launched the TVS Apache RR 200 Mini to help youngsters take the first step into motorsports.

TVS gave away 10 mini bikes to the Madras Motor Sports Club in an event at the Madras International Karting Arena (MIKA) on Monday. The purpose-built TVS Apache RR 200 Mini will form the backbone of a structured rider development programme for aspiring racers aged 10-14 years, equipping them with professional racing skills under the guidance of experienced instructors and TVS Racing champions. The kids will also be provided with the requisite safety gear.

For a long time, India has not had access to mini bikes, which are crucial for riders’ development and are enjoyed by their peers in Europe and Southeast Asia. These bikes promise to fill that gap, offering aspirants a chance to train their skills at an earlier age.

Young riders will be trained at the MIKA karting track, with the option of the short loop version of the Madras International Circuit also available.

“We are working to create a grassroots-level programme where the youngsters can be trained. Now we want to build grassroots-level youngsters who can eventually become a part of Rookie Cup and the Factory Racing Team,” said Vimal Sumbly, Head — Premium Business, TVS Motor Company.

“We are creating these products to ensure the kids can get trained in the age group of 10 to 14. So this bucket of 10 to 14, which was not there with us, is what we are building it for. Through this, we also want to tell a larger audience that motorsports is a career to develop, provided you do a structured approach and get trained well,” he added.

TVS Racing’s Jagan Kumar, an 11-time National champion, welcomed the introduction of this bike and felt it is a huge step for the riders. “For car racing, you have karts where kids can learn. But in bikes, until now we didn’t have one. If kids can start at 10, they can learn a lot of basics like body posture, cornering lines and throttle control, and these things will help them turn pro earlier,” said Jagan.
