Three persons were killed on the spot in the early hours of Tuesday (July 28, 2026) when a speeding lorry hit their SUV near Chelluru village on the outskirts of Vizianagaram.

According to the police, the deceased were Chintapalli Rambabu, Majji Narayana Rao and Botsa Mohan Naidu, all of Majjipeta village in Padmanabham mandal of Visakhapatnam district. Thirteen people from the village were travelling to Rayagada to offer prayers at the Maa Majhighariani temple. They had stopped the vehicle for a while near Chelluru when the lorry hit it.

The injured have been admitted to hospitals in Vizianagaram. Vizianagaram Superintendent of Police A.R. Damodar asked the traffic and rural police to take precautionary measures to prevent accidents on the route.

The police said the stretch between the Y junction at Vizianagaram and Chelluru, on the road connecting Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam, is narrow and has no street lights, and that accidents are frequent there.
