West Bengal Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta on Saturday (July 25, 2026) placed the CAG report in the State Assembly, which he said was not done for some unknown reason during the past few years.

Terming the non-presentation of the CAG reports concerning the State during the previous years as a “constitutional lapse”, he said in the House that a perusal of these will lay bare the reasons for West Bengal’s over ₹8 lakh crore debt.

“Keeping that constitutional lapse in mind, we are tabling 28 volumes of the CAG report before the House,” the Finance Minister said.

Mr. Dasgupta said the government wants to hold a special session of the Assembly in the future to discuss the CAG reports.

“It is our duty to place the government’s mistakes before the people through these reports,” he said.

The Minister said that studying the reports will reveal the reasons for West Bengal’s over ₹8 lakh crore debt, and he urged the members to do so.
