Solar projects inaugurated at Vizag hospitals to promote green healthcare

Solar projects inaugurated at Vizag hospitals to promote green healthcare

Posted on July 25, 2026 By admin

District Collector M. Abhishikth Kishore inaugurated 100 kW rooftop solar power projects on Saturday (July 25) at the Government Mental Care Hospital and the Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS). Both institutions received 50 kW capacity systems aimed at cutting energy costs and transitioning towards clean energy.

Speaking at the inauguration, Mr. Kishore commended the efforts of AMNS India for bolstering sustainable healthcare infrastructure across government hospitals through its Corporate Environmental Responsibility (CER) initiative.

The installation forms part of a broader district-wide program by AMNS India to equip government medical facilities in Visakhapatnam with renewable energy systems. The company previously completed rooftop solar installations at King George Hospital (KGH) with a 120 kW capacity and Victoria Hospital with an 80 kW capacity in 2025, while an additional 50 kW installation is currently underway at RCD Hospital.

Officials noted that the shift to solar power will significantly lower institutional electricity expenditure while reducing carbon footprints to foster a greener, more sustainable healthcare environment.

The ceremony was attended by M. Ravindra Nath, Executive Director of AMNS Vizag Asset; Dr K.V. Rami Reddy, Superintendent of the Government Mental Care Hospital; D.S. Varma, Head of HR & Administration at AMNS Vizag Asset; and various medical professionals, hospital staff, and government officials.
