The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) officials announced on Monday (July 20, 2026) that no new cases of diarrhoea were reported in Giripuram, Vijayawada, on July 19-20, after 13 people fell sick between July 16 and 18.

According to information, while four were admitted to the hospital for treatment, one has been discharged and the others continue to receive treatment. They also reportedly have other health conditions. Since no new cases were reported on Monday, medical camps would be removed from Tuesday (July 21).

An official from the office of the District Medical and Health Officer, NTR district, said misinformation is circulating on social media platforms, and reiterated that the reports are fake and that the situation is under control.

Reports of stool samples, collected from the affected persons, are still awaited. However, reports of water samples sent to the Institute of Preventive Medicine, Guntur, which arrived on Monday evening, did not reveal any contamination, said VMC Executive Engineer Gopala Krishna Murthy.

The VMC has been collecting 400 water samples every day since July 17, the official said, adding that tests were conducted to check chlorine levels, and also to see if nitrites and ammonia were present in the water.

“All the reports came negative. The chlorine levels are normal, and there is no trace of ammonia or nitrite too,” Mr. Gopala Krishna said, adding that there is no bacterial contamination too.

Suspecting water contamination, the VMC had at first distributed water cans to residents of Giripuram. The official said since contamination has not been proved, the distribution process will be discontinued from Tuesday.
