Bondada bags NTPC REL order for 100 MWh battery storage project

Bondada bags NTPC REL order for 100 MWh battery storage project

Posted on July 20, 2026 By admin

Bondada Engineering has bagged an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) package from NTPC Renewable Energy (NTPC REL) for developing a 100 MWh Vanadium Redox Flow Battery Energy Storage System (VRFB BESS) at Khavda Solar Park in Gujarat, with Delectrik Systems as the technology partner..

Designed to support integration of renewable energy into national grid, the project will leverage VRFB technology that offers several advantages over conventional lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery systems. The technology aligns with India’s vision of strengthening energy security by reducing long-term dependence on imported cells, through the utilisation of domestic vanadium resources or import from diverse sources, Bondada said, announcing the NTPC REL order, which includes 10 years of operations and maintenance.

The project marks a significant milestone as it forays into next-generation long duration energy storage (LDES) technologies, it said, without mentioning the financials of the order. India is targetting around 236 GWh of battery energy storage systems by 2030 from nearly 3.3 GWh installed capacity at present.

“Securing India’s first and largest grid-scale VRFB energy storage project demonstrates the ability to execute advanced clean energy infrastructure and reinforces commitment to support the country’s energy transition,” Bondada Engineering Group CEO Rear Admiral (Retd) R. Sreenivas said.
