Muthiah Street in Vellala Teynampet, near Stella Maris College, provides access to DMS Metro station, and during rush hour, this street bustles with pedestrians and motorists. There is a never-ending parade of commuters during these hours, and their movement is hampered by haphazard parking of vehicles, largely those belonging to visitors to four shops on Muthiah Street. Offscourings from these shops left behind on the road add to the impediment.
A resident of the area notes on condition of anonymity that in the early morning hours, this situation causes noticeable disturbance to college students and walkers. The resident adds that haphazard parking is essentially the result of visits to four shops. Grey water and rotten vegetables from a fast food shop and a vegetable shop make it to the road.
Repeated pleas to Greater Chennai Corporation to get these shops to clean up their act by ensuring parking of visitors’ vehicles is regulated and the discards disposed of carefully, have not helped, the resident rues.
This road is behind DMS Metro station, he continues, and given its significant location and the impact it can have on pedestrian and vehicular movement when it ‘malfunctions’, the rules of the road have to be adhered to more conscientiously.
The residents notes besides students of Stella Maris college, among the major constituents that use this road from DMS Metro are students of Amethi College, Balaji Matriculation Higher Secondary School, police quarters and then a considerable number of commuters heading to offices and commercial establishments on Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai.
