A doctor was found dead in a pool of blood in his apartment and his eight-year-old son was left battling for life in Dharwad on Wednesday.
The police have taken into custody the doctor’s wife, who is also a doctor, in connection with the crime.
Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar who visited the scene of crime gave the name of the deceased as 45-year-old Kiran Honnannavar. He was an anaesthetist working in a private hospital and a resident of Ranko Stello Apartment at Barakotri in Dharwad.
He was found dead with multiple stab wounds.
He said that the boy who too suffered stab injuries was found still breathing when the police visited the spot. The boy was immediately rushed to hospital. His condition is said to be critical.
He said that the wife of the deceased, Priyanka, seemed to be in a state of shock but her statement was incoherent.
She has been taken into custody for further questioning.
The Police Commissioner said that they are trying to ascertain what transpired.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that Dr. Priyanka was answering Dr. Honnannavar’s calls from Tuesday evening and each time told a different story to the caller about Dr. Honnannavar’s whereabouts giving room for suspicion that the murder might have taken place on Tuesday itself.
According to a complaint filed by the family members of Dr. Honnannavar, a domestic dispute seemed to be the cause for the ghastly incident.
According to reliable sources, the accused was found watching mobile phone sitting in another room, while her husband’s body was lying in a pool of blood and her son was battling for life.
