EC extends SIR deadline; final electoral roll to be out on Oct. 19

EC extends SIR deadline; final electoral roll to be out on Oct. 19

Posted on July 15, 2026 By admin

Two weeks into the special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in Delhi, the Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday extended the deadline for the ongoing door-to-door visits to August 8 as digitisation of the enumeration forms is yet to pick up pace.

As per the revised schedule for the exercise shared by the EC, the deadline for the month-long house-to-house verification that began on June 30 has been extended by 10 days. The exercise that was scheduled till July 29 will now continue till August 8.

The draft roll will come out on August 17 instead of August 5. Claims and objections can now be filed from August 17 to September 16. These would be disposed of by October 15. The final roll will be published on October 19.

Delhi election officials said that the extension will give time for wrapping up of collection and digitisation of filled forms without overburdening BLOs and ensure “accuracy.”

According to data shared by the office of the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), district-wise progress of the SIR shows that distribution of forms has been completed in Old Delhi, New Delhi, and North East districts. Nearly all of Delhi’s 1.45 crore electors have received the forms, but only 14.35% (about 20.8 lakh) forms have been digitised. It involves BLOs manually mapping the elector as per the forms collected through the BLO app, while also uploading a scanned copy of the form.

Booth Level Officers are required to conduct physical verification of forms filled online. Over 2.2 lakh online enumeration forms are still pending verification, data show.

Officials said that over the remaining period, the focus will shift on collection of filled forms and verifying those details, to ensure no eligible voter is left out.

“Every elector needs to return their filled form, whether mapped or unmapped, for their names to be included in the draft electoral roll that will be published on August 17,” the official added. In case of unmapped or any discrepancies, the Election Registration Officers (EROs) concerned will send notices requiring an explanation or the submission of supporting documents.
