The Tambaram City Police arrested two persons in separate anti-drug operations and seized 1,100 banned Tapentadol tablets, 5 kg of ganja, ₹60,000 in cash and a car as part of their ongoing crackdown on narcotics.

According to the police, acting on a tip-off, officers intercepted a suspicious parcel at a courier service facility on Mudichur Road and arrested Leesri (22) while he was attempting to collect 1,100 banned Tapentadol tablets allegedly smuggled from Mumbai, using the address of a private hospital.

In another operation on the same day, the Singaperumal Koil police arrested Senthil alias ‘Thadi’ Senthil, a B-category history-sheeter attached to the Kasimedu police station. The police seized 5 kg of ganja, ₹60,000 in cash and a car from his possession.

Separate cases have been registered under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and both the accused have been remanded in judicial custody.

The Tambaram City Police said they would continue their stringent action against narcotics offences and appealed to the public to share information on drug trafficking and illegal narcotics activities.

Crackdown by Chennai police

Meanwhile, the Greater Chennai City Police said during a week-long anti-drug crackdown conducted between July 5 and July 11, 2026, the police registered 57 cases and arrested 94 persons.

The police seized 80.272 kg of ganja, 1 gram of methamphetamine, 19 grams of heroin, 1,068 tablets, 20 grams of OG ganja, five mobile phones, ₹15,500 in cash, one two-wheeler and one autorickshaw from the accused.
