A 30-year-old City Armed Reserve (CAR) police constable allegedly shot himself with a service rifle inside a stationary patrolling vehicle at the busy Jagat Circle in Kalaburagi city on July 7 night.

The deceased has been identified as Shivakumar Nariboli, a 2016-batch constable. He is survived by his wife and two children.

According to official sources, Nariboli was previously deployed with the Bengaluru Rural police unit before being transferred to the Kalaburagi CAR wing in February this year.

Kalaburagi City Police Commissioner S.D. Sharanappa visited the spot and stated that the constable took the extreme step while on duty inside a police van deployed for security arrangements at Jagat Circle. Preliminary findings suggest personal reasons may have driven the officer to end his life, the Commissioner added.

A team of forensic experts conducted a detailed examination of the spot.

“Our teams, along with forensic investigators, are currently processing the site. A formal case will be registered. A thorough investigation will be launched as soon as the aggrieved family submits an official complaint,” Dr. Sharanappa said, adding that all angles behind the drastic step would be probed.
