Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) C.V. Anand on Tuesday called upon police personnel to return to the fundamentals of effective policing by focusing on integrity, visibility, impartiality and the use of technology to improve public service delivery.

During his district tour of Khammam, the DGP reviewed policing, crime control measures, road safety initiatives and technology-driven policing systems. He conducted a comprehensive crime review meeting with senior police officials and assessed major crime trends, enforcement strategies and areas requiring improvement.

Emphasising the importance of public trust, Anand instructed police personnel to work strictly within the framework of law, ensure justice for poor and vulnerable sections, and avoid interfering in civil and land disputes. He directed officers to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) while handling cases and ordered special action against sand mafia, soil mafia and rowdy elements.

The DGP stressed the need for stronger night patrolling to prevent property offences and instructed officials to ensure accurate implementation of Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) data management. He also highlighted the importance of advanced policing platforms, including CCTNS 3.0, Hawk Eye 3.0 and TG COPS 3.0, for improving policing efficiency.

In cyber crime, officials said 711 cases had been registered till June 2026, with victims losing around ₹9.48 crore to online frauds. Police recovered and refunded ₹1.41 crore to victims, while the cyber crime rate stood at 14.9%.

Financial fraud cases in Khammam have increased by 30%, while job fraud cases have witnessed a 36% rise, analysis of crime trends in the commissionerate revealed. Police also reported a growing number of fake document cases and said GST-related offences had come under investigation.

Reviewing road safety data, officials said 146 road accident cases were registered in 2026 up to the review period, compared to 317 cases reported in 2025. Police have identified accident-prone black spots in urban and rural areas and are implementing preventive measures, including road dividers, warning signboards, traffic indicators and awareness campaigns. On narcotics enforcement, police reported the seizure of 1,700 kg of ganja in 2026 so far, compared to around 4,000 kg seized during 2025. Khammam Police Commissioner Sunil Dutt said that the commissionerate continues to record one of the highest volumes of ganja seizure cases in Telangana, reflecting sustained action against drug trafficking.

The DGP reviewed lapses in the district crime strategies and advised officers on corrective measures.

During the visit, the DGP inaugurated a Road Safety Park, a CCTV Command Facility at the Commissionerate and 250 newly installed CCTV cameras connected to the command centre. He appreciated citizens who supported the installation of surveillance cameras in villages and urged people to responsibly inform police about drug abuse, especially among youth in villages and educational institutions.

As part of road safety efforts, police personnel conducted awareness programmes for students on traffic rules. Helmets were also distributed to police personnel and members of the public to promote safe riding practices. The DGP announced that a Traffic Management Bureau, on the lines of the EAGLE initiative, would soon be established to strengthen road safety measures.
