Around 120 sovereigns of gold and ₹4 lakh cash were stolen from a locked house in Manthikulam near Oomachikulam on Saturday.
The police said that unidentified persons gained access into the house of K. Gayathiri when the family members were away in Sellur from Saturday afternoon.
The crime came to light when the family members returned home on Sunday. Police said that no door or lock was broken open.
Among the properties lost was over 2 kg of silver ornaments.
M. Chatrapatti police are investigating whether the culprits had used duplicate keys to open the house.
