Reiterating the stand of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, on providing a corruption-free governance, Social Welfare Minister K. Jegadeeshwari on Friday cautioned the officials with stringent action if any official was found to be indulging in any corrupt practices.

Reviewing the progress of various developmental works here in the presence of Virudhunagar Collector N. O. Sukhaputra, Ms. Jegadeeshwari said that vested interests might try to trap the officials with malpractice. However, those who get caught for corruption would not get any exemption from stringent action, she said.

Stating that the officials were for serving the people, she said that their approach should be very friendly. Officials should give a patient hearing to the grievances of the people.

The benefits of Government schemes should reach the people on time.

Besides, they should make use of the funds in the right way and quality of works should be ensured. Increased use of e-governance tools will help serving the people expeditiously.

Priority should be given to basic amenities like drinking water, road, drainage facilities, cleanliness work, and environmental protection.

Ms. Jegadeeshwari also asked the officials to immediately bring to her attention about the practical problems in executing works, delay in getting funds so that she could take it up with the Ministers concerned for ensuring speedier execution.

Virudhunagar MLA, P. Selvam, Deputy Director, Srivilliputtur Meghamalai Tiger Reserve, Ravi, District Revenue Officer, R. Ananthi, DROs Rajasekar (Highways), Sasikal (SIPCOT), Project Director, DRDA, V. Kesvadasan, were among those who were present.
