Tazmin Brits excited about the chance to feature in 2028 Olympics

It was just a few days ago that the ICC and IOC confirmed cricket’s qualification pathway for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. Among those teams that have made it is South Africa.

Tazmin Brits is hoping she will be in that South African team for the Olympics. She had feared her Olympics dreams had died when a terrible road accident ruled her out of the London Olympics of 2012. Her primary sport then was athletics, and she was a javelin thrower.

She is in London now for the Women’s T20 World Cup. But South Africa was knocked out by host England in the semifinal at the Oval on Thursday (July 2, 2026). She was the top-scorer in the losing cause, making 51; the next highest score in the innings was 17. Earlier, she had scored a hundred against the Netherlands.

“If I score a hundred or fifty and we are not winning, then it is not enjoyable,” Brits said.

“Against England, I think our PowerPlay with the bowling was great. We definitely let it slip a bit with Nat Sciver-Brunt and Heather Knight that actually came and built their partnership. I think they took the game back there.”

She praised Sciver-Brunt’s innings. “I was actually hoping her calf injury was still there so she wouldn’t have to come in,” Brits said, smiled.

“I am excited about the Olympics. I never got a chance to go for the javelin, so now I am stuck with the tattoo. I hope I make that squad.”
